Sharjah Airport readies for winter rush with fast-track and new lounge
Here’s what travellers should know before heading to the terminal
DUBAI – The Sharjah Airport has announced full operational readiness to manage a surge in passenger traffic during the winter holiday period, unveiling a series of measures aimed at easing congestion and maintaining service standards.
The airport said preparations focus on improving passenger flow, expanding service options and strengthening staffing levels across key operational areas. Travellers have been advised to arrive at least three hours before their scheduled departure to ensure a smooth journey during peak travel days.
The announcement comes as the airport anticipates increased demand from both departing and arriving passengers over the holiday season. Authorities said the measures form part of ongoing efforts to enhance efficiency and deliver a seamless travel experience during one of the busiest periods of the year.
Early arrival
Sharjah Airport has reiterated its advice for passengers to reach the terminal three hours ahead of departure, citing higher traffic volumes and increased flight activity. Early arrival is expected to help travellers complete check-in, security and immigration procedures without unnecessary delays, particularly during peak hours.
Passengers are also being encouraged to plan ahead and make use of available services that allow them to complete several formalities before reaching the airport. The aim is to reduce pressure on terminal facilities while ensuring steady passenger movement through departure and arrival zones.
Smart check-in
A range of digital and fast-track services is available to support quicker processing. These include self-check-in kiosks, baggage drop facilities, smart gates and fast-track options, alongside the Hala service for passengers seeking additional assistance.
Air Arabia passengers have been urged to take advantage of the city check-in service, which allows them to complete procedures in advance and proceed directly to passport control upon arrival at the airport. In addition, a newly introduced home check-in service is now available for Air Arabia and Fly Jinnah passengers, enabling them to complete formalities remotely before heading straight to immigration at the terminal.
Airport officials said these options are designed to minimise waiting times and streamline passenger movement, particularly during periods of heavy demand.
New facilities
As part of its winter readiness plan, Sharjah Airport has opened the Al Diyafah Lounge at the main entrance to the departure area. The lounge offers additional comfort and hospitality services for travellers seeking a more relaxed pre-flight experience.
To support the expected influx of passengers, the airport has also increased staffing levels across operational departments. The additional workforce is intended to ensure faster processing times and smoother coordination for both departures and arrivals throughout the holiday season.
Sharjah Airport said the combined measures reflect its commitment to maintaining high service standards while responding to seasonal growth in passenger numbers, with further improvements planned as part of its broader efficiency drive.
